The Comparative Anatomy Information System for the Foundational Model of Anatomy and Mouse Anatomy Ontology

چکیده
The Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA) [5] is a hierarchical description of the human anatomy implemented in the Protégé 2000 knowledge representation. It can be navigated using Protégé or the Foundational Model Explorer (FME) or queried using the query engine Emily [2], [3]. An approach called The Structural Difference Method [4] has been proposed to correlate the anatomy of two species. In this paper, we will present the design of the Comparative Anatomy Information System (CAIS) that allows a user to issue queries determining the similarities and differences between two species based on the Structural Difference Method.

Implementing a Comparative Anatomy Information System for the Foundational Model of Anatomy and the Mouse Anatomy Ontology
approved: _______________________________________________________ Jonathan L. Herlocker This thesis describes the implementation of an interface for querying established correspondences between anatomical structures across species. I was the main developer of this query engine, called the Comparative Anatomy Information System. My work involved developing methods to query the knowledge base, pe...
متن کاملMulti-species Ontologies of the Craniofacial Musculoskeletal System
We created the Ontology of Craniofacial Development and Malformation (OCDM) [1] to provide a unifying framework for organizing and integrating craniofacial data ranging from genes to clinical phenotypes from multi-species. Within this framework we focused on spatio-structural representation of anatomical entities related to craniofacial development and malformation, such as craniosynostosis and...
متن کاملOf Mice and Men: Design of a Comparative Anatomy Information System
In previous work, we proposed an approach called the Structural Difference Method (SDM) to correlating the anatomy of Homo sapiens with selected species, using the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA) as a framework and graph matching as a method, for determining similarities and differences between species. In this paper, we present the design of a comparative anatomy information system that ut...
متن کاملThe Evolving Neuroanatomical Component of the Foundational Model of Anatomy
In order to meet the need for an expressive ontology in neuroinformatics, we have integrated the extensive terminologies of NeuroNames and Terminologia Anatomica into the Foundational Model of Anatomy (FMA). We have enhanced the FMA to accommodate information unique to neuronal structures, such as axonal input/output relationships.
متن کاملExperiences from the anatomy track in the ontology alignment evaluation initiative
BACKGROUND One of the longest running tracks in the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative is the Anatomy track which focuses on aligning two anatomy ontologies. The Anatomy track was started in 2005. In 2005 and 2006 the task in this track was to align the Foundational Model of Anatomy and the OpenGalen Anatomy Model. Since 2007 the ontologies used in the track are the Adult Mouse Anatomy an...
